Starter to Standard Upgrade Kit
This is a kit that upgrades your PicoScope NVH Starter Kit to a Standard Kit. It adds an accelerometer, a
microphone, an interface, an extension cable, a BNC to BNC Lead (yellow) and a magnet to mount the accelerometer.
It can also be supplied in foam for your tool drawer.
Mongoose J2534 Lead — Mongoose Pro ISO/CAN
J2534 is a standard interface used in modern motor vehicles that was made mandatory in the USA. It
features a connector usually located (in accordance with those regulations) within 2 feet of the steering
wheel to allow the driver access to the interface. It has a USB connector and is plugged into the computer.
The Mongoose cable allows access to the J2534 interface and, for NVH, it returns engine and road speed
information, which is necessary for the analysis of noise and vibration. The Mongoose Cable can
optionally be included in any of our NVH kits.
Some OBD scan tools do work with the J2534 interface and NVH, but not all. The Mongoose is the tool,
recommended by Pico, for NVH testing.
MEMS Accelerometer and Magnet
The small, lightweight, low-cost accelerometer used to measure vibration in the NVH kits. It is mounted on
the vehicle and connected to the oscilloscope via an interface and one to three BNC cables.
The accelerometer has three axes, X, Y and Z, and can measure up to 5 g acceleration. Its frequency response
is 1,500 Hz on the X & Y axes and 500 Hz on the Z axis.
The Magnet is a strong, rare earth pot magnet, and it allows you to mount the accelerometer. There are two
mounting screw holes on the accelerometer to help you to orientate it correctly.
Microphone
The Microphone is used to measure sound pressure in the NVH kits. It is mounted on the vehicle and connected
to the oscilloscope via an interface and one BNC cable. Its frequency response covers the entire audio spectrum.
It is omnidirectional, which means that it can pick up sounds from all directions.
Extension Cable
The extension cable allows you to extend the length of the cable between the oscilloscope and the accelerometer
or microphone. This is useful if you need to move the sensor further away from the oscilloscope.
The Interface
The interface is connected between the oscilloscope and the sensor (microphone or accelerometer). It is used to
provide power to the sensor and to amplify the signals.
BNC to BNC Cables
These spare cables are used to connect the NVH Interfaces to the oscilloscope. They are colour-coded to
help you identify the scope channel/s being used:
- Channel A: Blue
- Channel B: Red
- Channel C: Green
- Channel D: Yellow
